A woman who was allegedly luring men and indulging in extortion has been arrested by the Mysuru rural police. The accused identified as Mala of Ashokapuram in Mysuru is believed to have conned dozens of men in the name of friendship. The modus operandi of Mala’s extortion game is, she befriends men by smiling at them and later gives her cell number to them for further conversation. After a while, she invites the man for some place where she gets him beaten up by her gang of miscreants and decamps with all his valuables and money in his pocket.
In a latest operation, Mala smiled at a man at JP Nagar bus stand in the city and gave her phone number to him. After continuing the ‘friendship’ for some time, she asked him to meet her in person at a park. When he arrived at the place, she got him abducted by a group of youths and the man was beaten up. Then she forced him to sign a blank cheque. The victim who managed to escape from the extortion gang, filed a complaint with the Mysuru rural police station.
A police official then played an innocent guy and Mala was at it again. She was arrested by the police while she was trying extort money from him. During questioning, she confessed to the police that she had been doing this with many men in the past few months.
