Nandyal by-polling people’s

Nandyal: A high voter turnout in Nandyal bypoll during the first three hours indicates a record 80 percent polling in the prestigious political battle for both the ruling TDP and Opposition YSR Congress Party. In the constituency, 1983 general election’s 73.84 percent has been the highest poll percentage so far.

According to unofficial figures, nearly 30 percent votes were cast in the first three hours which is unprecedented in a bypoll. Generally people are disinterested in bypolls and especially in the Rayalaseema districts this kind of turnout is something unusual, according to political analysts.

Polling began at 7am but hundreds of voters were seen queuing up at polling stations much earlier. Interestingly, aged voters are participating with much enthusiasm in polling than the younger generation. There are around 35,000 young voters in the constituency out of 2,09,000 total votes.

YSR Congress Party candidate Silpa Mohan Reddy cast his vote at a polling station in Nandyal along with his family members.

Women voters are participating in polling in huge numbers. No untoward incidents were reported so far and the security arrangements are perfectly in place.

Polling will close at 6pm. Counting of votes will be held on August 28.
